Dr Sheffer was born in Joplin, MO, and was raised in Baxter Springs, KS.  He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy in Lawrence, KS, and a DDS from the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, in Oklahoma City, OK.  After dental school he completed a one-year Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery internship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA, and then a four-year residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, OK.

He has received several honors and awards throughout his extensive educational career and is a member of many professional organizations, including: The American Dental Association; The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons; The Missouri Dental Association; The Southwest Missouri Dental Association; The Missouri Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons; The American Dental Society of Anesthesiology; The Kansas Masonic Lodge; and American Mensa.

When Dr Sheffer is not busy in the office or treating facial trauma patients at the hospital, he enjoys spending time with his family.
